The muscular system makes up 60% of the horse’s total body weight. The primary functions of the skeletal muscles are to control movement, to stabilize joints, and to maintain posture. Muscular tension and spasms compromise the normal function of these muscles, causing reduced flexibility, loss of athletic performance, and increase the risk of injury to associated muscles, tendons, ligaments, and joints.
Massage therapy refers to specific strokes and techniques that manipulate the soft tissues of the body for the purpose of preventative maintenance or rehabilitation therapy. The horse is the ultimate athlete and incorporating preventative massage into their routine schedule optimizes their health and well-being, reduces their risk of injury, and maximizes their performance in and out of the arena. Horses that are rehabilitating from injury and confined to stall rest or suffer from a chronic disease process, such as navicular, kissing spine, or arthritis, will greatly benefit from the therapeutic effects of massage therapy.
In addition to her dual certification in Equine Massage Therapy, Bridget has over a decade of experience in the veterinary field. Combined with her lifetime experience riding and competing, she is able to service horses of all ages, breeds, and disciplines and provide them with the highest quality of care.
Her mission first and foremost is to improve the quality of life of the horse, both physically and mentally. Through massage therapy, she aims to relieve tension, restore muscular function, and improve flexibility, allowing the horse to move more balanced and freely, and as a result, improve performance.
